Looking for something different to do during your stay in Destin this holiday season?
While holidays at the beach are, by their very nature, different from the frigid winter wonderland up north, there are a few unorthodox Emerald Coast holiday events which delight visitors looking for something more eclectic than the traditional Dickens performances.
The Village of Baytowne Wharf, with more than 12 restaurants, 15 retail stores and several nightlife venues, has one such event this Saturday, December 13th.
Starting with a free Tuba Christmas Concert at 5 pm, the event features a different take on the classic celebrations with a Holiday Lantern Parade of commissioned paper lanterns at 6 pm and the new holiday classic movie “Elf” starring Will Ferrell at 7 pm.

Tuba Christmas is a free concert held in cities worldwide that brings together musicians that play instruments in the tuba family. Playground Music Center has brought the unique event to the Destin holiday season.
The concert is followed by the 4th Annual Baytowne Holiday Lantern Parade which offers a modern coastal take on an ancient tradition. The event features commissioned paper lanterns in shaped as iconic holiday symbols.
Make Your Own Lantern!
Guests can make their own lanterns for the parade by decorating a globe lantern with colored paper or building an angel lantern. A limited number of lantern workshops begin at 10 am and 1 pm.
Golf Cart Parade!
Also this year, the Sandestin Homeowners are lighting up their golf carts and joining the fun!
Watch as twinkling lanterns pass by during this unique festivity and feel the energy and merriment as the homeowners share parade treats! The sounds of many tubas provide the perfect eclectic backdrop.
Of course, Santa Claus will be arriving a for a Block Party at 7 pm so that you and the munchkins can chat with the Jolly Old Elf as Continuum plays at the Events Plaza Stage.
There is a public parking garage and several auxiliary lots with shuttles to the Village. The event and parking are free and valet service is also offered for $5.
